Types of Websites
Decide on the type of website you need or want. There are several types of websites on the internet, each specializing in a particular service or use.
If you have a website on the internet I am sure that you created it for a reason. Are you selling something? Do you want to tell something about yourself or your organization? How about teaching something or entertaining someone.
Whatever your goal may be there is a category into which you fit. Below are some common types of websites.
- Personal Website Design:
The purpose of this type of website is to provide information about an individual or group. This type of website is run by an individual or a small group (such as a family) that contains information or any content that the individual wishes to include. The Internet address has a variety of endings.
- Affiliate Website
An affiliate website is one that generates revenue by referring visitors to products and services. You link to various company websites via links that have been coded to track your activity. Any time a sale occurs as a result of your referral, you earn a commission. Good places to find affiliate programs are networks like Commission Junction, LinkShare and ShareASale. There is no cost to join.
- Commercial Website Design
The purpose of this type of website is to sell products or services. Commercial websites are used for promoting a business or service and are among the most common type of website on the internet. The Internet address often ends with .com.
- Organizational Website Design
The purpose of this type of website is to advocate an individuals opinion or a groups point of view. A website where persons with similar interests communicate with each other, usually by chat or message boards. The Internet address often ends with .org.
- Educational Website Design
The purpose of this type of website is to provide information about an educational establishment or to present information in an educational manner. The Internet address ends in .edu
- Entertainment Website Design
The purpose of this type of website is to entertain and provide amusement. The Internet address often ends with .com.
- News Website Design

- Blog Design
A website that is used to log online readings or to post online diaries; may include discussion forums or chatrooms. The Internet address has a variety of endings.
- Hybrid Website Design
Many websites are a mixture of types. For example, a business web site may promote the businesses products, but may also host informative documents, such as white papers or provide news for it's visitors. Remember, information is the soul of the internet and if used wisely articles and informational pieces are a good hook to bring in visitors.
- Other Websites
There are also numerous sub-categories to the ones listed above. For example, a fan site may be a vanity site on which the administrator is paying homage to a celebrity. Another example would be a hobby site where the webmaster shares their knowledge with other like minded individuals and through forums or chat rooms creates a dialogue with them.
- Niche Site
A niche site is a site that sells very specific products that target a certain audience. Let's say you like skateboarding. You would create a store that only sells products related to this sport.Build A Niche Store - Succeed As An eBay Affiliate Click Here
- User Interactive, Social Networking Website
Sites that would fall into this category would be auction sites, social networking sites and any kind of site that is dynamic and requires user accounts, memberships, profiles, etc. YouTube, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, etc. While I don't want to completely deter you from going this route, you need to understand what's involved.
- Content Management Systems (CMS) Option
Now, there are some CMS (Content Management Systems) like Joomla and Drupal that allow you to create interactive sites without having to know much about programming.
So if you're going to go this route, make sure you select a web host that allows you to install these free CMS scripts.
Now that we understand about the different types of websites it's time for registering a domain name.
Types of Websites to Avoid
- No.1 in my opinion is the replicated, turnkey website.
The problem with those pre-created websites that you receive is they are not unique.Search engines like Google, Yahoo, etc. are now smart enough to realize it’s just a duplicate of the other 180,000+ member sites in the program. So reeling in all that free, targeted traffic like Webmasters who have their own domains with unique content will be next to impossible.
The money making niche is too saturated.
Type make money in Google and look at the total number of results on the top right-hand side. That number right there should be enough to scare you away. The topic is saturated to no end so getting found, even if you had your own domain name, is a very tall task.
Good Luck and have fun!
